In this webinar, Tom Candy explores a range of techniques used to build confidence in rescue dogs. You’ll learn about:

  • confidence in dogs and what it looks like
  • practical aspects of confidence building in both puppies and adult dogs, and
  • training concepts and techniques to successfully build confidence that can be used inside and outside the shelter environment.

Training and behavior professionals, shelter staff, and volunteers will all gain foundational skills in confidence building for rescue dogs.

Instructor: Tom Candy BSc (Hons), MSc, CSBS, CDBC, CCAB

Tom Candy is a Senior Training and Behaviour Advisor for Dogs Trust in the United Kingdom. Tom is responsible for overseeing the training and behaviour work at multiple rehoming centres across the UK, overseeing every stage of assessment, management, and behaviour modification.
A passion for animal welfare and training led Tom to undertake a BSc (Hons) in Bio-veterinary science and a MSc in Clinical Animal Behaviour from the University of Lincoln (UK).
Having started volunteering in rescue at the age of 15, Tom has been involved in a variety of aspects of rescue including fundraising, home checking, transporting and general day to day operations. Since graduating from University, Tom has been working as a training and behaviour advisor, eventually locuming across 7 centers and then being promoted to the senior Training and Behaviour team.
Tom is an accredited animal behaviourist with the Animal Behaviour and Training Council and a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant and Co-Chair with the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants.
