Course Begins: At Purchase

Duration: 1 Hour

Instructor: Dr. Carla Simon MD, BSc, MBA

Course type: Webinar

When training dogs for scent detection, careful management of the environment and protocols make success easy. Dogs learn quickly with clarity and without pressure or sacrificing motivation. Repeated successes build great habits and common errors are avoided. This approach makes a difference in outcomes, and most importantly, motivation for sniffer dogs.

This webinar will help you:

  • Examine how errorless learning can be applied in scent detection
  • Incorporate errorless learning by adapting trial-and-error dog training
  • Reduce or prevent errors in your own training by exploring common errors in scent detection
  • Identify normal predatory behaviors and contrast them with the ideal performance in scent detection
  • Analyze when errorless learning is most helpful, relative to stages of learning
  • Assess how you would utilize errorless learning in your training and consultations

This webinar is intended for behavior consultants and dog trainers who are interested in the science of canine scent detection, errorless learning, or both. Other members of the public may find it informative, provided they already understand the basics of canine learning theory, clicker training, and effective animal training.
