The IAABC Foundation is a nonprofit organization that relies on donations and volunteers. Each volunteer has a role that helps the IAABC Foundation work towards its mission to inspire, develop, and provide quality, evidence-based education, research, and other charitable activities in animal training and behavior.

Volunteers can help from anywhere in the world in a variety of ways, from contributing to social media campaigns to transcribing videos, or even organizing events. In fact, most of our team members running the foundation are volunteers!

As an IAABC Foundation volunteer you are joining into a community of animal lovers who, together, are a vital part to the Foundation’s mission. Though we are remote, we work closely together online, keeping in touch and connected. Your volunteer hours are greatly appreciated by the Foundation, and won’t go unrecognized.

Journal Director

Volunteer position. Time commitment: 8-10 hours per week

 

The Journal Director plays a crucial role in the strategic direction, operations, and management of the IAABC Foundation Journal. This position requires strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of scholarly publishing practices, and the ability to collaborate effectively with authors, reviewers, and stakeholders.

 

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the IAABC Foundation Journal, including article submission and peer review processes, editorial workflows, and production schedules.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for authors, editors, and reviewers, addressing inquiries, concerns, and feedback in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of published content through rigorous quality assurance processes and adherence to editorial standards.
  • Develop and provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the Journal team, including editors,administrative support personnel, and peer-reviewers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including professional organizations and industry partners.
  • Represent the Journal at conferences, meetings, and other professional events to promote the Journal and network with potential collaborators.
  • Collaborate internally to develop and implement plans to enhance the Journal’s impact, visibility, and reputation within its field.
  • Monitor and address issues related to plagiarism, copyright infringement, conflict of interest, and ethical misconduct.
  • Ensure Journal content aligns  with organizational goals and mission.
  • Maintain a consistent presence by participating in team meetups and ongoing communication in team Slack channels as needed.

Creative Writer

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week

Summary:

The Creative Writer is responsible for writing copy for marketing and education to be disseminated via the IAABC Foundation social media accounts, email campaigns and website.

Responsibilities include:

  • Familiarizing with all IAABC Foundation offerings which includes but is not limited to courses, live events, the IAABC Journal, fundraising initiatives and other projects
  • Writing copy with a marketing and social media eye, based on the relevant organizational guidelines, with an understanding of animal behavior and adhering to LIMA
  • Team communication using Slack

Education Development Associate

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week

Summary:

The Education Development Associate is responsible for completing tasks related to the development of online courses and programming. 

 

Members of the Education Development team collaborate to see development projects through from start to finish. There are several stages in the process, each requiring a specific set of skills and knowledge. Together, we determine which tasks fit with your interests, skills, knowledge, and availability. 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and reviewing course materials
  • Assist team members through development of curriculum
  • Research course ideas
  • Maintain quality control standards

Job Tasks:

Education Development Associates work collaboratively with all members of the Education team to achieve a variety of tasks. It is not expected that individuals will perform all of these tasks. Rather, the work is distributed according to expertise and interest. 

  • Prepare materials following specific style guidelines
  • Review course materials to ensure quality before proceeding to the next phase of development
  • Check for accurate attribution of third party copyrighted materials
  • Document any needed revisions to course materials and recorded videos
  • Create and maintain documentation to assist new team members and to guide educators through curriculum and content development 
  • Research course ideas and prospective educators
  • Draft compelling course descriptions and promotional messaging
  • Maintain course quality control checks throughout the development / revision process
  • Offer ideas for workflow improvement
  • Maintain a consistent presence by participating in weekly meetups and ongoing communication in team Slack channels

 

Spanish Translation Associate

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week

Summary:

The Spanish Translation Associate is a vital member of our team, responsible for translating material from English to Spanish for publication in the IAABC Foundation Journal, educational courses, social media platforms, printed resources, and other places as relevant. This role plays a key part in making valuable research and insights accessible to the Spanish-speaking audience.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Accurately translating from English to Spanish while maintaining the integrity and scientific rigor of the original content.
  • Collaborating with the editorial team to ensure the translated material meets the organization’s standards and guidelines.
  • Reviewing and proofreading the translated text to ensure accuracy, clarity, and coherence.
  • Communicating effectively with internal teams and adhering to project timelines.
  • Contacting content creators in case of translation difficulty or something that presents any difficulty to be understood in Spanish.

Job Requirements – Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Proficiency in the Spanish language and strong translation skills.
  • Capacity to use neutral Spanish, understanding there are European and Latin American variants.
  • Excellent command of written English for understanding the source content.
  • Attention to detail and a strong commitment to maintaining the quality of the translated material.
  • Familiarity with scientific and academic writing styles.
  • Ability to work independently while following organizational guidelines.
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize multiple translation projects.

Technology Director

Volunteer position. Time commitment: 8-10 hours per week.

The Technology Director is a pivotal role within the IAABC Foundation, responsible for overseeing and optimizing the organization’s technological infrastructure. This position involves managing technology initiatives, implementing innovative solutions, and ensuring the seamless operation of digital systems to support the Foundation’s mission.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, implement, and manage technology systems to support organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with the team to understand technology needs and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, technology partners, and service providers.
  • Develop and implement cybersecurity measures to safeguard digital assets and sensitive information.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and make recommendations for their integration.
  • Lead and coordinate technology-related projects, ensuring timely and successful execution.
  • Provide technical support to team members and troubleshoot technology-related issues.
  • Ensure data integrity and implement data management best practices.

Video Editor

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week

Summary:

The Video Editor is responsible for editing and producing high-quality video content that aligns with the charity organization’s goals and objectives. The primary responsibility of the Video Editor is to create engaging video content that showcases the organization’s mission, goals, and impact. 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with the organization to understand their video needs and brainstorming creative ideas for video content.
  • Reviewing raw video footage and selecting the best shots to create a compelling video.
  • Editing and producing videos that showcase the organization’s mission, goals, and impact.
  • Incorporating music, sound effects, and graphics to enhance the video’s overall impact.
  • Ensuring that the video meets the organization’s branding and messaging guidelines.
  • Creating social media videos and brief collages that increase engagement and attract new supporters.
  • Producing promotional videos that support fundraising campaigns and showcase the organization’s work.
  • Working with the team to develop and implement a video content strategy that aligns with the organization’s messaging and brand guidelines.
  • Ensuring that the final video meets the organization’s branding and messaging guidelines.
  • Communicating with the organization’s team to ensure that the final video meets their expectations.
  • Delivering the final video in the requested format and within the agreed-upon timeline.
  • Maintaining a clear and organized archive of all video assets, including raw footage and final edits.

The Website Editor is tasked with updating, creating, and managing content on the website. They play a crucial role in ensuring correct and up-to-date information for potential clients accessing the website.

Responsibilities

  • Generate and edit written, visual, or multimedia content to ensure it meets quality standards, aligns with the website’s goals, and is free of errors.
  • Ensure that content is optimized for search engines (SEO) to improve the website’s visibility and ranking in search results.
  • Work with other teams or departments to coordinate content creation efforts and ensure consistency across the website.
  • Conduct regular content audits to identify outdated or irrelevant material, and make necessary updates to maintain accuracy and relevance.
  • Focus on creating a positive user experience by organizing and presenting content in a user-friendly manner, optimizing readability, and considering website accessibility.
  • Compliance: Ensure that all content complies with organizational policies and style guide.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including writers, designers, and web developers, to coordinate content updates and maintain a cohesive online presence.

Website Administrator

Volunteer position. Time commitment: 3-5 hours per week.

The Website Administrator is tasked with the management and maintenance of the organization’s website. They play a crucial role in ensuring its smooth operation and optimal functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the website, including content creation and maintenance.
  • Ensure website functionality and user experience is optimal.
  • Monitor website performance and analytics to identify areas for improvement.
  • Implement website security measures to protect against cyber threats.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure alignment with overall marketing and communication strategies.
  • Stay up-to-date with web development trends and best practices, and provide recommendations to improve website functionality and user experience.
  • Create and manage accounts, access levels, and permissions on the website.
  • Respond to inquiries and resolve technical issues related to site functionality.
  • Update website software and applications to ensure they are up to date and functioning properly.
